Hi-
The Music Hall in Portsmouth NH is newly renovated with a very cool lobby and lounge, have Indie films just about every week as well as great film events like Metropolis AND have the NH Film Festival which brings in 30 thousand folks and top filmmakers and the Telluride by the Sea Film Festival. So, um….Huh?????
Agreed on Portsmouth’s Music Hall. And they have concerts as well. But the NH Film Festival would be enough to get my vote.
The Music Hall in Portsmouth should be #1! Besides being steeped in history, it is an amazing building with an amazing story. If Garen hasn’t done so already, I recommend that he take a “behind the scenes” tour. The Music Hall programming is excellent, too; there’s something for everybody – prominent opera troupes, dance, folk, jazz, authors, shows for kids, *and* the best cinema in the area – top first-runs, indies and classics. Telluride East and NH Film Festival, as well. Plus the best popcorn, affordable snacks, and great comfy new seats. Check out the beautiful restored ceiling, too.
These lists of the best and second best Cinemas can’t be full and proper. The guy evidently has not known about the Music Hall in Portsmouth. Shame on him! Declaring “the best” means you have considered every possibility.
Cape Cinema has a great selection of films but the seats are so old and uncomfortable you can hardly enjoy the films. You have to arrive a half hour or more before show time, stand out in the cold to buy tickets with no way to reserve tickets in advance. While some may find these things “charming” I feel they should work on their fund-raising and spruce up the place and join the new millennium.
