Andrew Houser, a self-taught photographer who was born and raised in Maine, lives in Portland, Maine, with his family. Self-described as “born wired to create,” Andrew had an early interest in traditional forms of art, although photography didn’t enter into the picture until he picked up a camera to start taking photos of his family. It didn’t take long for his curiosity to turn to passion.

Andrew spent much of his time traveling his home state of Maine looking for captivating landscape opportunities and developed an affinity for images depicting a desolate or solemn feel to our landscape. “Such areas are becoming harder to find and are worth protecting,” explains Andrew. He’s also drawn to create time-based images and those near the ocean or other source of water.

Photography was the catalyst that led Andrew to spend 6 months in England photographing the countryside, as well as mainland Europe. He returned to Portland and now operates both his landscape photography business as well as a portrait studio in Westbrook, Maine.

These are beautiful pictures. After spending all my early years in Maine and now at eighty seven years of age and a Southerner I cannot tell you how really lonely they made me feel. There is nothing in this country like our beautiful State of Maine!
