Editor’s note: Readers will find these great driving tours and much more at YankeeFoliage.com, the premier source for news, travel, and events during New England’s most colorful season. (And we know how much fun the tours are because we’ve driven every mile of them ourselves!)

A Certain Peace

After being stationed at Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, for two years (1988-1990), I grew to love New England. When I got out of the Air Force, I came back to my native California and have always regretted not settling down back East. I miss the scenery, the slower pace of life, and the inner peace I felt when I was there. I hope to retire there someday, but in the meantime, your wonderful magazine brings a little part of New England to me.
