“The way Santa was presented to me as a kid was that every Christmas morning, we’d sit at the top of the stairs, and my father would say goodbye to Santa. We wouldn’t see him; we’d just hear my dad: ‘Oh, Santa, why are you still here? Oh, my! So good to see you.’ We loved it, and when Santa was gone, that was our cue to come down. The one Santa gift I remember best was my ‘Johnny Reb’ cannon. I don’t think my mother knew that this particular cannon actually shot cannonballs. And not just small cannonballs, but plastic ones about three inches in diameter. You could knock the balls off the Christmas tree. It was great!”
