JUNE 13: WESTFIELD, 150th Strawberry Festival. Summer’s sweet berry is still reason to celebrate, even after 150 years. A quintessential New England festival held outdoors on Cohasset Common, with 90-plus juried crafters, a fine-art tent, live music, children’s activities, and local churches selling lobster rolls and strawberry shortcake. 781-383-2787;

JUNE 15–16: STURBRIDGE, Music & Art Weekend. Old Sturbridge Village comes alive with the lost sights and sounds of 19th-century popular art and music. More than 50 singers, dancers, musicians, and artists will entertain, including a performance on an antique pipe organ. JULY 2–JULY 7: BOSTON, Boston HarborFest.  Featuring hundreds of events highlighting Boston’s role in our country’s founding, this is America’s biggest birthday bash. Events are held around the waterfront and downtown areas and include a Children’s Day, a concert series, and Chowderfest, plus walking tours of historic sites, lectures, reenactments, and of course, a fantastic fireworks show. 617-227-1528;

JULY 5–7: YARMOUTH, Bass River Arts & Craft Festival. Over 150 juried craftsmen display their beautiful American-made works at John Simpkins Field. Enjoy sampling specialty food items, watching craft demonstrations, and listening to live musical entertainment. 603-332-2616;

JULY 13: LENOX, Tanglewood Presents “West Side Story.” Experience a thrilling new version of this iconic film as the Boston Symphony plays Leonard Bernstein’s electrifying score live, while the newly remastered film is shown on large screens in high definition with the original vocals and dialogue intact. 888-266-1200;  

JULY 20–21: OAK BLUFFS, Portuguese Holy Ghost Feast. Follow the parade from Oak Bluffs Wharf to the Portuguese American Club, where you’ll enjoy traditional kale-and-sausage soup as well as great live music, dancing, food (including BBQ), and games of chance. 508-693-9875;

JULY 20–27: BARNSTABLE, County Fair. A Cape Cod tradition now in its 169th year, the fair is great for families: animal shows and a petting zoo, 4-H demonstrations, horticulture displays, live music, arts and crafts, a whirlwind of fun foods, and the thrill of midway amusement rides.

JULY 21: LINCOLN, Antique Auto Show. Enjoy viewing more than 300 classic and antique vehicles while listening to the music of a live jazz band; sample fine food offerings, check out the family activities, and tour the historic Codman Estate.

JULY 26–AUGUST 25: LENOX, “Mother Courage and Her Children.” At Tina Packer Playhouse, Shakespeare & Company presents a much-anticipated performance, with Academy Award winner Olympia Dukakis in the lead role. Set during the Thirty Years’ War, the play follows the fate of an artful woman within the Swedish army, intent on keeping her business and family alive amid the destruction of war. 413-637-3353;
