Jamie Trowbridge, President/CEO of Yankee Publishing, Inc., Receives 2012 Business in the Arts Leadership Award
DUBLIN, NH (May 15, 2012)—The New Hampshire Business Committee for the Arts (NHBCA) honored Jamie Trowbridge, president and CEO of Yankee Publishing, Inc.(YPI), with a Business in the Arts Leadership Award at the organization’s 28th annual Business in the Arts Awards gala on May 14 at the Radisson Hotel in Manchester.
The Leadership Award is given annually to recognize one individual business executive for his/her exceptional leadership, vision, and commitment in encouraging and developing the partnership between business and the arts; and in particular for incorporating the arts into his/her company’s business operations.
“As those nominating him stated in their letters, using personal resources and an excellent network of associations, Jamie often works quietly, behind the scenes, to bring about projects and support arts programs,” says NHBCA Executive Director Joan Goshgarian. “It has been said that the arts are never far from the center of consideration in Jamie’s thinking about the quality of life in New Hampshire. Some have used the words ‘creative thinker,’ ‘innovator,’ and ‘man of action’ to describe him. Still others call him compassionate, committed, and capable, with the New England virtue of saying what he means and doing what he says he’ll do. His dependability is worth his weight in gold.”
As president of YPI, Trowbridge was honored for his distinguished record of promoting and investing in the state’s arts community and persuading others of the value of the arts as an engine of economic vitality, diversity and quality of life. Founded by Trowbridge’s grandfather in 1935, family-owned and -operated, YPI publishes Yankee Magazine and The Old Farmer’s Almanac. During its 77-year history, YPI has supported the arts through extensive editorial content covering the arts in the magazine, sponsorships of art-related programs, and financial contributions.
From the beginning, Yankee’s editorial coverage of New England has emphasized the arts as a defining element of the region, effectively promoting them to a vast audience. Over the years the magazine has featured the works of well-established writers and photographers. Perhaps more importantly, Yankee has served over the years as a vehicle to launch the careers of many talented but previously unknown writers and photographers. By providing an opportunity for new writers and photographers to expose their work to a large audience, Yankee plays a critical role in supporting the arts.
YPI supports many New Hampshire art organizations, such as the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen, the Thorne-Sagendorph Art Gallery at Keene State College, and the New Hampshire Music Festival, through sponsorships. In 2009, Yankee was named a program sponsor for the celebrated series Writers on a New England Stage, produced by and presented at The Music Hall in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Yankee’s partnership with the series helps to extend the program beyond the borders of New Hampshire.
Trowbridge serves on the Board of The MacDowell Colony, on the National Council of the Norman Rockwell Museum, and on the Cultural Tourism Committee of Arts Alive!, a nonprofit organization working to sustain, promote, and expand access to arts and cultural resources in the Monadnock Region.
NHBCA also recognized the following companies for their contribution to the arts with awards: TD Bank, Provident Bank, Boothby Therapy Services, and Heartwood Media.
