JULY 2-4, JULY 30-AUG. 1, SEPT. 3-5, OCT. 8-10: BREWSTER, By the Bay Fine Art and Crafts Show. Watercolors, fine-art photography, oils, jewelry, stained glass, pottery, furniture, clothing–there’s something for every eye and every taste at this show on scenic Cape Cod Bay. 508-896-2670;

JULY 17: YARMOUTH PORT, Historic House Tour on Captains’ Mile. Eight privately owned homes will be specially opened to the public, with knowledgeable docents present at each house to describe the historic significance of the building. JULY 31-AUG. 7: WOODS HOLE, Woods Hole Film Festival. With daily screenings, workshops, panel discussions, staged readings, parties, and an awards ceremony, this nonprofit, eight-day showcase of more than 100 independent films is a must-attend for any cinema aficionado. 508-495-3456;

AUG. 7-8: STURBRIDGE, Redcoats and Rebels. Old Sturbridge Village is transformed into a Colonial encampment as re-enactors in colorful period costume gather to re-create the War for Independence, as it was known in early New England. 800-733-1830; 508-347-3362;

AUG. 8: WESTMINSTER, Wachusett Valley Folk Festival. Presenting an impressive line-up of folk performers, including Brooks Williams, Maeve, Mustard’s Retreat, Susan Werner, Vance Gilbert, and more at Wachusett Village Inn. 978-365-2043;

AUG. 14: FALMOUTH, Sand Sculpture Contest. Ten teams of sand sculptors will compete on scenic Surf Drive Beach, but no team will lose. An awards ceremony later in the day will distribute medals to each team for different categories of excellence. AUG. 14-15: GLOUCESTER, Gloucester Waterfront Festival. Come to Stage Fort Park with a craving for art–more than 150 juried artists and crafters from across the country will display their wares. Listen to live jazz and maritime music, try ethnic foods, and take a seat at the pancake breakfast and lobster bake. Browse art exhibits, from jewelry, quilts, and pottery to original watercolors, clocks, and blown glass. 978-283-1601;

AUG. 28-29: SALEM, Antique & Classic Boat Festival. View vintage yachts, runabouts, cabin cruisers, and sailboats on display at Hawthorne Cove Marina.
