Heather! Thanks for your recent lesson. With the six inches of beautiful new snow in East Montpelier this morning, I was able to put my new-found knowledge of balance and edging to good use as I negotiated my way from house to car in galoshes. Sure, you were talking about skiing, but these skills are definitely transferable. I plan to draw upon them again in the near future on the ice rink. (I think I see more Warrioring in your Weekend!)

I finally got out skiing this weekend. Feb. and March are my favorite months to ski cuz it's not so dang dark. The snow at Okemo on Sunday was really good, but I think it had more to do with Okemo's snowmaking skills than the Mother Nature's sloppy contribution on Friday. We took advantage of the NH/VT resident discount, which applies from 8am to 1:30pm on Sundays. The discount used to apply from 12:30pm to 4:00pm, and I liked that much better. Heather says we should get up early for the best snow and to beat the rush, but she doesn't have teenagers. Plus, doesn't it make more sense for Okemo to have the locals ski in the afternoon, after the New Yorkers have already headed south? -- spread out the crowds, don't concentrate them. The NH/VT discount at Sunapee (operated by Okemo) is still in the afternoon, but I like Okemo better. Hope someone at Okemo is listening...

Jamie,
Thanks for your kind words regarding Okemo Mountain Resort. Lo and behond, someone from Okemo is listening! I'm the director of p.r.and wanted to take this opportunity to address your concerns. At Okemo, we take great pride in the fact that we listen to what our loyal visitors are saying and we take action to improve the resort experience for everyone based on those suggestions. In the case of the Sunday Solution ticket for N.H. and Vt. residents, we were able to make the special offer even sweeter by moving it from afternoon to morning. VT/NH residents can enjoy a half day of skiing on Sundays and experience the best conditions of the day! This new Sunday Solution for VT/NH residents is just $29 for all ages (non-holiday) and is valid Sunday mornings from 8 am to 1:30. That's two more hours than the previously offered Sunday Solution. Proof of residency in the form of a valid VT/NH driver's license, hunting/fishing license, or voter registration card must be presented at the time of purchase. Kids 6 & under are FREE. VT/NH Sunday Solution will not be offered on February 17, 2008.

So, better conditions and two more hours of skiing for the same price - what's not to love? I say, get those teenagers a louder alarm clock or just go skiing without them ... you snooze - you lose!
