Mom always made the corn chowder on cold winter days, I have tried but mine never tastes like Mom's. The chorizo and eggs is my Step-Mom's recipe and it is yummy and reminds me of good times with my Texas family. I live in Virginia and chefs here think clam chowder should be mostly potatoes. Most times I am lucky if I see one piece of clam. So when I am in New England, I will order clam chowder if it is on the menu. My nephew who is in the Army stationed in Texas now does the same thing when he is home. We are both in search of the perfect clam chowder. Needless to say, a few restaurants on the Cape have our highest ratings so far. After we had corned beef and cabbage, he would fry some onions in a little bacon grease, then add some cut up boiled potatoes, corned beef and cabbage and fry it all together until it looked like a big pile of mush. But, what a great tasting pile of mush it was! I sure miss it. I tried to make it but it wasn't the same. Some things just never come out the way Daddy made them.
