The NE 'Quiet Corner' of CT is a gem -- on your own or -- for those who'd really like to peek behind the fences - on a Bison-Brie-Brandy culinary tour; a Fiber to Fashion contemporary and heritage textile tour; or a ghosthunter led, historian and folklorist supplemented Haunted Eastern CT tour of spirited spots and haunted restuarants. ConneCTionsgrouptours.com has info on CT-based touring for groups.

My wife & I try to travel the full length of Rte. 169 every year! To us it is Connecticut's 'Mohawk Trail ' & more. It's amazing how many beautiful little villages are tucked away in such a gorgeous piece of New England. There's always something new to explore in Woodstock, Canterbury, Brooklyn & on & on & on. The word etc. doesn't belong in a description of such a special area! Thank you for spreading the awareness & appreciation of Connecticut's 'Quiet Corner'.

This is my old stomping grounds. I imagine all of CT was like this 50 years ago. Thanks Mel, for bringing it to the attention to all those who think CT is Fairfield County and the Turnpike.

Thank you to Mel Allen for the video and details of spots along 169. I've lived in Indiana all my life. I take Yankee Magazine to see all that I am missing. I'm hoping to travel your way someday and I know I'll have a wonderful adventure.

We visit Litchfield county every year (where we lived in the 80s) driving out from Ohio. We only have a week and have wanted to drive Rt. 169 for a few years now, but getting there and back again from the other side of the state seems daunting for a day trip. Any tips on travel paths that I might not find on mapquest?
