AMAZING - i remember many many years ago that when i had gone to work in Stamford, Conn. up in the Ridges area - my boss had moved his company into his home and - that a huge snapping turtle was in the middle of the dead end road - this turtle had just laid eggs in my boss's pond in back of the house - it took so long for this turtle to move wherever it was going - i guess it was tired - ANOTHER ONE - i live in Port Chester, NY along the Byram River and i happened to look out the kitchen sliding door and see a huge lump of something in the backyard at 7:00 a.m. - went down and out to the yard - i went very quietly and here was this turtle laying golf ball size eggs - came back home at lunch, she was covering up the hole - by the time i came home from work at 6:00 she was gone - quite some time later when i got up to look in the yard the babies had hatched and were gone all that was left were something like elastic eggshell casings and a ramp of dirt where they had crawled out of the hole AND she had crawled through a fence to get in my backyard - have pictures of this
