About Us:Yankee Magazine was founded in 1935 and is based in Dublin, New Hampshire. It is the only magazine devoted to New England through its coverage of travel, home, food, and feature stories. With a paid circulation of over 350,000 and a total audience of nearly 2 million, it is published by Yankee Publishing Incorporated (YPI), a family-owned, independent magazine publisher. In 2011, Yankee Magazine was named a finalist in the national City and Regional Magazine Association's annual awards in four categories: General Excellence, Excellence in Writing, Photography, and Multimedia. 2010 marked Yankee Magazine's 75th anniversary as New England's magazine. Mel AllenMel Allen, editor of Yankee Magazine: Mel is the fifth editor of Yankee Magazine since its beginning in 1935. His career at Yankee spans three decades, during which he has edited and written for every section of the magazine, including home, food, and travel. In his pursuit of stories, he has raced a sled dog team, crawled into the dens of black bears, fished with the legendary Ted Williams, picked potatoes in Aroostook County, and stood beneath a battleship before it was launched. Mel teaches magazine writing at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and is author of A Coach's Letter to His Son. His column, "Here in New England," was 2009 National City and Regional Magazine Awards Finalist for the category "Column."

Lori PedrickLori Pedrick, art director of Yankee Magazine: Lori oversees all visual aspects and elements of the editorial pages in Yankee Magazine, including photography, illustration, and art production. Before joining Yankee, she was art director for MetroCorp Publishing, publisher of Philadelphia Magazine, Boston Magazine, and other niche publications, where she was responsible for developing and directing design, photography, and visual content. She earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from Moore College of Art & Design, where she studied illustration, graphic design, and photography.

Eileen TerrillEileen T. Terrill, managing editor of Yankee Magazine: Eileen is a lifelong New Englander and has been with Yankee since 2004. She is the magazine's primary fact-checker, copy-edits all material, and serves as a liaison among the editorial, art, and production departments. Before coming to Yankee, she was an editor of consumer and trade high-tech publications. A former biology teacher and psychiatric social worker, she has also edited and written for middle-school history and world cultures magazines.

Amy TraversoAmy Traverso, senior editor, lifestyle of Yankee Magazine: Amy oversees Yankee's Food and Home & Garden departments and contributes articles to the magazine. In September 2011, W.W. Norton & Company published Traverso's Apple Lover's Cookbook, a comprehensive guide to 59 apple varieties with 100 delectable apple recipes. Traverso has written for publications such as Salon.com, Travel + Leisure, Condé Nast Traveler, and the Boston Globe, among others. She served as Yankee's food editor from 2002 to 2005. She was Sunset Magazine's associate food editor from 2005 to 2007, where she reported on food and restaurant trends and wrote travel features. She served as food editor at Boston Magazine from 2007 to 2009 and as a contributing editor to the magazine since 2009.

Ian AldrichIan Aldrich, senior editor of Yankee Magazine: A native New Englander, Ian has worked and freelanced for Yankee for the past decade. He writes feature stories, home pieces, and helps manage the magazine's up-front section, "First Light." His stories have ranged from exploring the community impact from a church poisoning in a small town in northern Maine to dissecting the difficulties facing Nantucket around its problems with erosion. Ian is also an accomplished photographer and produces online videos for YankeeMagazine.com. In addition to his connection to Yankee, Ian worked as a senior editor of Cincinnati Magazine for several years.

Heather Marcus, photo editor of Yankee Magazine: Heather has been with Yankee since 1999. She works closely with a large group of contributing photographers, assigning stories as well as developing new talent for the magazine. One of her favorite photo essays that appeared in the magazine is Alexandra De Steiguer's work on the Isles of Shoals. Her initial passion for the medium came from a high school course in black-and-white photography, which led her later to teach photography basics to young students during college. She has a bachelor's degree in anthropology from Drew University. She grew up in New Hampshire and has a great appreciation for the people and landscape of New England. She is continually amazed at the great visual opportunities the region affords.

Deborah Despres, assistant editor of Yankee Magazine: A member of YPI's corporate staff since 2000, Deb joined Yankee's editorial team in 2011. A native of New Hampshire, with a work history that includes several years in the travel industry, she enjoys discovering new destinations, and the myriad of road trip opportunities unique to New England.

Aimee Seavey

Aimee Seavey, assistant editor of Yankee Magazine: Aimee is a lifelong New Englander with a passion for history, food, and exploring all that this beautiful region has to offer. She got her start at Yankee as a blogger, sharing stories about New England culinary traditions through The Yankee Seeker for YankeeMagazine.com. In addition to contributing to the magazine, Aimee assists in the development and promotion of content for YankeeMagazine.com through blogging and social media outlets.

Heather AtwellBrenda Darroch, editor of YankeeMagazine.com: Brenda manages and creates content for YankeeMagazine.com, YankeeFoliage.com, e-newsletters, and Yankee's social media initiatives. A photography enthusiast herself, she has created a platform on YankeeMagazine.com for regional photographers to display their work. She has a bachelor's degree in communications from Hiram College where she focused on writing and photography. She is a native Mainer and embraces the culture and traditions that make New England unique.

Heather AtwellHeather Atwell, communications manager of Yankee Magazine: Heather writes the New England Ski and Outdoor Adventure Blog throughout the year at YankeeMagazine.com. She also oversees the magazine's public relations efforts.

Jamie TrowbridgeJamie Trowbridge, president, Yankee Publishing Incorporated (YPI): As President/CEO of YPI, Jamie continues his grandfather's legacy of operating a thriving family-owned business. Prior to joining YPI in 1988, he held newspaper and magazine publishing positions in Boston and Seattle. YPI publishes Yankee Magazine and The Old Farmer's Almanac.

J.D. Hale, publisher of Yankee Magazine: J.D. oversees YPI's sales and marketing departments. Prior to joining Yankee, he worked for Time Inc.'s Life and People magazines before moving into corporate sales for Time Warner. JD is active in his local community. For over 12 years, he's been a host parent for A Better Chance (ABC); he serves as vice president of the Winchester Sports Foundation and is a board member for the local youth soccer organization. He also participates in the Pan Mass Challenge, a fundraising bike-a-thon which raises money for cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Born and raised in Dublin, New Hampshire, J.D. is the son of Judson D. Hale, Sr., Yankee editor-in-chief, and the great-nephew of founders Robb and Beatrix Sagendorph.

Jud HaleJudson Hale, editor-in-chief of Yankee Magazine and The Old Farmer's Almanac: An editor at Yankee since 1958 and chairman of the board of Yankee Publishing since 2003, Jud's wit and wisdom have established him as a beloved New England icon and expert. He has appeared nationally on Good Morning America, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and Larry King Live. He has written two books about New England: Inside New England and The Education of a Yankee. His latest book, Discovering Our Faraway Brother, is about his autistic older sibling.
