NewEngland.com Provides a Fresh View of New England
DUBLIN, New Hampshire (February 19, 2008)--The recently launched online lifestyle magazine NewEngland.com explores the "Six States of Excitement" through video, articles, and regional information covering travel, food, home, outdoors, and arts and culture.
NewEngland.com consists of three main components: topical content, actionable information, and lively community. Much of the content -- including profiles of New Englanders and a weekly television show about the region -- comes in the form of video. The information is drawn from an extensive database of top events, destinations, and things to do. And the community reflects the traditions of the New England town hall combined with the instantaneous connectivity of the Internet.
"Since 1935, Yankee Magazine has embodied the spirit and adaptability of New Englanders and will continue to do so in print and on the Internet," said Jamie Trowbridge, president/CEO of Yankee Publishing Inc. "NewEngland.com is simply a new adaptation that embraces all the unique characteristics of this special six-state region. We're using good Yankee know-how to create a new, sophisticated, video-driven platform that reflects our publishing heritage and reaches a new audience."
NewEngland.com was developed in association with Yankee Publishing of Dublin, New Hampshire, and Ipswich River Media of Topsfield, Massachusetts.
"In the same spirit that Yankee Magazine provides quality journalism, we're trying to raise the bar on dynamic Web content," said John Coulbourn, executive editor of NewEngland.com and managing partner of Ipswich River Media. "While we might take advantage of the innovations from Google, YouTube, MySpace, and others, we intend to apply them in a way that meets the sensibilities of the people here in New England."
Special highlights include the following:
"Faces of New England" offers simple video interviews featuring individuals who represent the wide-ranging talents of our region. Recent profiles include interviews with novelist Joe Hill, son of Stephen King; media personality Howie Carr; "radical historian" Howard Zinn; and best-selling author Anita Diamant.
"New England TV" is a weekly entertainment show hosted by Miss Massachusetts USA 2008 Jacqueline Bruno and actor Curt Klump. The hosts escort viewers to special New England places and adventures; the current episode gives viewers an insider's view of Mohegan Sun, one of Connecticut's casino resorts.
The "Features" section offers articles on topics as diverse as frostbite, a family ski trip to the Berkshires, and the most expensive inn in New England.
"Pro Spotlight" showcases the work done by New England's best artists and photographers. * "Burning Issue" serves as a forum to exchange views on issues and ideas affecting life in New England.
At the heart of the online magazine is a comprehensive database of regional information, updated daily. Users can search simple-to-navigate directories covering business, recreation, lodging, restaurants, events, and more to find inside information on hidden gems, products made and grown in New England, and great deals. With the site's new features in the works, NewEngland.com's users can enhance their social networks through integrated message boards, feedback, and online viewer profiles.
NewEngland.com collaborates with a number of institutions including Appalachian Mountain Club, Historic New England, New England Aquarium, Commonwealth Editions, University Press of New England, SnoCountry, Coolidge Corner Theater, the Greater Boston Food Bank, and others.
