Obama Loves Apple Cobbler Too

Dublin, New Hampshire (January 15, 2009)--President elect Barack Obama's 2001 endorsement of peach cobbler on the menu at Dixie Kitchen and Bait Shop, a diner in Chicago, has gained recent national attention. It is similar to a recipe for Michelle Obama's Apple Cobbler which the Obamas submitted as an entry in Yankee Magazine's first-in-the-nation primary cookie contest, held in December 2007. "I've been making this cobbler for a long time, so I usually just eyeball how much needs to go in. People might want more or less sugar, but this is how our family and friends like it. This recipe makes one cobbler, which is like a double pie." Unlike Obama's bid for presidency, the cobbler did not win. The judges declared Bill Richardson's Biscochitos the winner.
Since New Hampshire holds the first national primary, many presidential candidates visit during the months prior to the election. Dublin, New Hampshire-based
Yankee, "New England's Magazine," first published in 1935 and the only magazine devoted to New England, ran the inaugural contest to find out which presidential candidate is the top cookie--or rather, which one has the top cookie recipe.
