I have a few amazing teachers to thank this week and these Vintage Halloween Baskets will be a delightful way to share some appreciation.

Materials needed to make Vintage Inspired Halloween Baskets:

  • Peat pots (you can find these at a garden center or hardware store–”Jiffy peat pots” are one brand you can look for)
  • Orange, yellow, red and white acrylic paints
  • Paintbrush
  • Hole punch
  • Black or Halloween themed ribbon (thin)
  • Treats to put in the basket
  • Halloween garland (thin, to go around the outside rim of basket)
  • Hot glue and hot glue gun (if garland is not wire based)

Materials needed to make gift tags:

  • Vintage inspired Halloween images or clip art
  • Glue stick
  • Red, yellow or orange paper
  • Hole punch
  • Ribbon (thin)

 Directions:

  • Paint the outside of the pots one color (i.e. all orange)
  • Allow to dry
  • Choose a different color (i.e. yellow or red) to paint stripes or polka dots onto the pots
  • Allow to dry
  • Punch a hole toward the top lip of the basket
  • Punch another hole exactly opposite the first hole
  • Wrap a thin piece of Halloween garland around the top lip of the pot.  If the garland is wire based you will not need to glue it—simply wrap the garland around the outside rim of the pot and then twist the wires to secure it into place.  If your garland is not wire based you can hot glue the garland onto the outside rim.
  • Slide a ribbon through one hole and tie a knot to secure it
  • Slip the other end of the ribbon through the other hole and repeat
  • Double check and make sure both knots are secure
  • Fill your baskets with fillers, treats, miniature gifts and/or Halloween candies

I also made gift tags by gluing vintage Halloween images onto brightly colored papers that match the baskets.  I punched a hole through the tags and put a slip of ribbon through.

These are ADORABLE! I love the vintage clipart — the cats always look so clever and spooky in that era. I bet the teachers loved their baskets!
