The Edward MacDowell Medal is awarded annually to an individual artist who has made an outstanding contribution to his or her field. Past medalists include Robert Frost (1962), Georgia O’Keeffe (1972), Leonard Bernstein (1987), Jasper Johns (1994), and I.M. Pei (1998). Medal Day features a welcome by Pulitzer-prize winning author and Colony Chairman Michael Chabon, the medal ceremony, a picnic lunch, and open studios hosted by artists-in-residence on the stunning 450-acre property of the nation’s first artist residency program.
