I love the tart crispness of the Granny Smith apple. use it also to make pies.

Comment from Pat Herring on October 19, 2009

Nothing beats a Mac especially with some good Vermont cheddar to eat along with it. Yum!

Comment from Judith and Barry Walraven on October 19, 2009

Since we discovered Honey Crisp Apples nothing can hold a candle to them! They are always, crunchy, juicy and delicious! We use them in salads, and desserts, but the best way for us is to bite into a whole, fresh one!

Comment from Louiseanne Crossman on October 19, 2009

We worked in the orchards around Lyndeborough, NH in the 60's and the hands down favorite was and still is Macintosh. Eaten fresh, baked in pies, made into applesauce and any other apple recipe. I agree it is at its best with a slab of sharp Vt. Cheddar cheese, but I won"t refuse it no matter what way you prepare it.

Comment from Marie Hazzard on October 19, 2009

I agree with the Honey Crisp Apple. That has become my favorite ever since I first tasted it. Very good to eat whole.

Comment from Keith Dunn on October 24, 2009

My favorite is a good dark Arkansas Black. It's crisp, sweet and juicy!

Comment from Joan Lajoie on October 24, 2009

You didn't even include macouns and macintosh, by far the favorites in Vermont I'd guess!

Comment from Johanna Mack on October 26, 2009

We absolutely love the Stayman Winesap apples, both for eating and making pies........I have never tried either the Honey Crisp or Arkansas Black......and would love to try any apple that is crisp and juicy.......

Comment from PJ Fiocco on October 26, 2009

There is nothing like a fresh Mac...but since I moved to CA I can't find any that have that signature "snap" with the juice running down your chin! They arrive old and mealy so the local Californians don't know what I see in Macintosh apples. You have to pick them off the tree in New England to truly appreciate their full magnificence!

went apple picking at Bartlett Orhcards. hardest thing I ever did, whew! how do they do it everyday? think about it everytime I eat a Mac.I try other kinds of apples but always go back to Mac; it\'s what I grew up on.

Comment from Christine Arnold on January 11, 2012

I love the tast of Macs but I also use Granny Smith's with them in a pie for a firmer texture.
