1. Apple Pie
Freund's Farm Market
324 Norfolk Rd.
East Canaan, CT

Although the apples come from nearby New York State, the blend of different kinds -- tart, sweet, firm, and tender, with not too much sugar and spice -- makes Freund's apple pie can't-stop-eating-it good. The homemade crust lets the juices seep into the top edges; transporting it oven-hot in your car is the best kind of air freshener.

I'm afraid I'd have to say I make the best apple pie in New England (along with my Mom). No one can beat my pie crust or my filling.

Once again, Marion's Pie Shop in Chatham, MA. I waited in line for 45 minutes around Thanksgiving for my pies. Hopefully, next year the wait will be shorter but the line was wrapped around the front of the building and along the street. Most of us were buying Apple Pies as well as many other wonderful things.

Johnny Appleseed Country of north central Massachusetts for sure. It's where our fine apple tradition started and spread to the rest of the country through our namesake Johnny Appleseed, from Leominster. As soon as the orchards open, try Sholan Farms in Leominster and Red Apple Farm in Phillipston. Bolton Orchards in Bolton is open all year long. My mouth is watering just thinking of an apple pie...

I have one of the best huge apple orchards only a quarter mile from my home! And yes, Johnny Appleseed was responsible! We come to Florida for the winter months and I always bring a couple huge bags of apples with me, they last forever in my crisper in my refridgerator - make severl apple pies out of them. This orchard also offers strawberries, blueberries and summer vegetables, so I'm blessed to have this "goodie basket" in my back yard!!

Lyman Orchards in Middlefield, Connecticut has been awarded the best apple pie title by Connecticut Magazine's readers for more years than I can remember. Some of their pies are even available for purchase at local Big Y grocery stores. It is a really, really fantastic pie!
