I was disappointed when I read the article in this month's issue on the Family Clambake in Rhode Island. The author used the term chorizo to descripe the sausage used in the clam bake. Being from Fall River, MA and having a cottage in Rhode Island myself we have always used chourice which is a Portuguese sausage and completely different than the dried cured Spanish version known as chorizo. Now maybe I'm nit picking, but I don't feel the terms should be used interchangeabley as they are two totally different sausages.

Just got my copy today! Great issue! LOVED the Mary's Farm story and it made me laugh out loud! Also , today, made the gazpacho recipe on page 68. Never had gazpacho before and and my husband and I thought it was delicious! I added some cilantro and carrots as well as some shrimp to it and it was all so good together. Normally I've stayed away from gazpacho cause cold veggie soup never appealed to me. The idea of "liquid salad" in the article gave me a new angle to look at the soup and so I thought I would try it out while keeping "liquid salad" in the forefront of my mind. Will be making more gazpacho this summer! Also appreciated the help with the de skinning of the tomatos. Did the suggested boil method and it worked perfectly. Thanks! : )
I remember reading an article a few years ago about a couple who has a B&B and also teaches a course about the realities of the B&B business. I believe that they teach in their B&B as a one week course. Cannot find it using the search on this site. I may be imagining it, but if you know of the article or know of this course -or of one similar, I would appreciate the informaton!

I agree with the others. The new changes do not enhance Yankee magazine. Is some-
one looking to diminish Yankee? I DO NOT like the new size. Paring down the
number of issues is a bad idea. The change in the paper quality -- UGH!! If I
wanted a home and garden-ish magazine I would buy one. I like to hear about the
history and the interesting people (both living and deceased) that are so Yankee!
By the way, it's okay with me if you include Canada -- especially the Maritime
Provinces. Many Yankees in New England have parents or grand parents who
come from there. New York's Upstate region has more in common with New England
than with New York City. It, too, could be included as well.

Thanks for letting me vent,

I thanked you for this article a few weeks back, with a note that a follow up might be needed to cover the controversial treatment of dogs with lyme and a little about my dog's experience with the lyme vaccine. Little did I know that I'd be writing again---two weeks after my oldest son came down with Lyme. Thanks to your article, which was fresh in my mind---I really pushed for a lyme test when my son wasn't having a typical flu. Subsequent doctor visits---as he wasn't getting better and the test takes up to two weeks to come back---I pushed even more and got him started on antibiotics. His test came back positive today. No, we never saw the tick that "got" him and the doctor we saw even dismissed his rash as an allergic reaction. My own research revealed to me that it was a classic lyme rash and while I know doctors often get undue pressure when the public is armed with too much info and too much panic---I urge all doctors, especially pediatricians to make sure that their information is up to date on lyme--especially the presentation of what the rash looks like. It's a disease that definitely needs quick diagnosis and treatment.

Thank you!!!! I want to thank you for your article on Lyme disease.
People have no idea how bad it is to really have Lyme Disease.

I live in New Hampshire and yes Lyme Disease is here.

I have been suffering from disseminated lyme disease for the last 11 years.
It triggered many health problems. I have psoriatic arthritis and chronic myofascial pain(aka fibromyalgia) from it.

I have been at odds with doctors for many years. I think they are in agreement with my arguments but as said in the article the insurance companies are tying their hands.

One of the largest vector is our moose in the state, and because of them the ticks are living throughout the winter. I also believe that the introduction of turkeys to the state has manifested even more ticks causing more lyme disease.

I hope the article opens peoples eyes to lyme disease in not only Connecticut but here in New Hampshire.

Very nice article, however, you might have mentioned that owning koi, even if indoors, is illegal in Maine without a permit. There was a well-publicized case recently in Freeport, ME, where the owner of the China Rose restaurant, who had his koi in a tank for 15 years, had them confiscated and held, until after much legal wrangling and $20,000 in costs, finally got them released to his custody on a five year permit, with the caveat they could not be displayed in public without a sign warning that they are illegal, invasive and could harm the ecosystem if released.

I am researching a book involved with the kitchens of the summer resort hotels from Hingham to Nantasket during the late 1870s -1895, Would anyone at Yankee, or Yankee readers, be aware of cookbook compilations of the recipes used at places like the Pemberton? At Downer's Landing? Barrow's? At the Hotel Nantasket? Or perhaps a recipe printed in the local papers? Would anyone have old recipes for the original Rhode Island clambake?
