Six Stops for Funky Shops in Vineyard Haven

Shopping on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts

Explore this eclectic mix of shops and eateries when you arrive at Vineyard Haven. From beads to books, breakfast to burgers, you find a treat at every stop.

Beetlebung Coffee House

When you don't have a Starbucks on every corner, you really appreciate a place to meet a friend, take a break, or have a bite. Beetlebung, a great new addition to downtown, is a cozy but sophisticated coffee bar. Right across from the post office, it has a nice selection of loose tea, sweets, and panini sandwiches. Sit inside, or relax outside on the patio. [DETAILS]

The ArtCliff Diner

Just a little farther out Beach Road, you'll find breakfast all day and eclectic lunch fare at The ArtCliff Diner. There's always a line for a table or a seat at the counter, but Gina whips up fabulous salads and savory crepes, seafood sandwiches, falafel, great burgers, and much more. (The daily specials depend on what's caught her eye at the farmers' market.) [DETAILS]

Mix

Looking for some 1950s barrettes or a vintage Brownie camera? Maybe not, but Mix has a collection of colorful, fun, and affordable new and vintage goods. Chock-full of the unexpected, it's the place to find a unique gift for your host as well as something to take home to the kids -- not to mention that incredible something or other you had no idea you couldn't live without. [DETAILS]

The Green Room

For dressing up or dressing "Vineyard," The Green Room has a "with-it" selection. With a repertoire from Patagonia to polo shirts, the staff will graciously help you find something to wear to the Chilmark cocktail party or the clambake that the kids won't roll their eyes at (and there's plenty of clothing, gear, and accessories for them as well). [DETAILS]

Bunch of Grapes Bookstore

That rare thing -- an independent bookstore. Two floors stacked with the latest best sellers and paperbacks for the beach, plus the classics you've always meant to get to. The store stocks every existing publication about the Vineyard, and presents regularly scheduled meet-the-author book-signing events. Look for "staff picks" and anticipate a rainy day. [DETAILS]

Beadniks

More than a bead store, Beadniks is an experience. Enter this "Aladdin's cave" and you'll find an awesome selection of beads from across the globe: glass, silver, bone, semiprecious stones, and more. The findings needed to craft your own jewelry are available, and the staff will provide all the support you'll need. It's a great activity for all ages; plus, the store is a block from Main Street, it's air-conditioned, and there's a putting green out back for those who might not be captivated by your creative process.
