Speaking My Mind: Where will you go for the best foliage in New England?

Rita Krajewski -- I have found the fall colors just spectacular in the Berkshires of Western MA. I had a home on Ashmere Lake in Hinsdale, MA, and loved sitting on the deck and watching the changing scenery. Love to drive Rt. 7 N for the colors.

Jim Beam -- I agree with Tim Butkus. The Manchester area in southern Vermont is great for checking out the leaves. I'll be driving that way soon.

Bonnie Wiggins -- I've never seen anything as spectacular as the drive from Newport, RI to the Cape. It was 2004 and I still haven't caught my breath!

Mary Fahey -- The Monadnock area is great. Our favorite is the town of Peterborough, NH.

Mimi Steadman -- The fall color in the mountains can be beautiful, but for truly spectacular autumn scenery, there's nothing like combining rainbow foliage with an ocean view -- such as at Pemaquid Point or Ocean Point, both in midcoast Maine.

Linda Chase -- Without a doubt, Sunset Lake, Greenfield, NH. Second choice? Crotched Mountain-Blueberry Hill area.

Tim Butkus -- I go to southern Vermont between Bennington and Manchester. Always a good spot to see the leaves and to enjoy the small towns along Route 7. Enjoy.

Jennifer Berg-Gill -- In Mount Monadnock region, especially my hometown of Fitzwilliam. There is nothing more beautiful than Laurel Lake in the autumn!

J.C. Martin -- While Eastern Connecticut is always beautiful, Franconia Notch, NH, does take my breath away anytime I'm there in October. Riding the North Conway train into the White Mountains is almost overwhelming, too. Even for a native.

Karen Johnson -- Best foliage is right here in Dublin's back yard at MacDowell Lake.

Anne Mitchell -- Went to upper state New York last weekend, up to Montreal, back through Vermont, and into New Hampshire. No color to speak of. More color down here in central MA. Going back to NY this weekend, will report.

Helen Brimlow -- No concern, so far. The changing of the leaves has started in spots here and there. There is much more coming, I am sure.
