Brendan Loughlin Demonstrates His Art

I thought Yankee Magazine's article "Still Lifes", was very well done. About 2 years ago my friend kept telling me she was taking lessons from a Brendan somebody and that they used this substance called Bin, along with tints and pastels. She would go on about how amazing it all was. It sounded kind of strange to me so I didn't pay much attention. One day my friends brought me along to their class, just to observe. Well, they talked me into painting. Mind you I have always admired people who had artistic talent but I realized I didn't have much natural talent of my own. In fact, I could barely draw stick figures! This didn't discourage Brendan. He tells his students that anyone can paint using his method. Now I am hooked and my friends are amazed at the paintings I end up with. I may not paint with much detail, but I don't have the patience for that anyway.

Brendan's art is colorful....oh so colorful.....and joyful! He bubbles with enthusiasm. His main mission in life is to spread this joy and teach others how to express it through painting. Never worry he says.....no fear.....with PASTAC there are never any mistakes. Anything can be fixed.

Brendan reports he has been getting calls from across the country after Yankee's January/February story reached readers. He deserves all the attention he gets--and I know that once readers try painting with his technique they will love it

I loved this article, especially since I'm an art teacher. I hope that you will leave a link to the video clip for several months so that I can show it to my 6 oil painting students. I think they'd have fun trying this more spontaneous method. I imagine that the fumes might be an issue so we can wait until the spring so we can use open windows or go outside.

Hello again

I just wanted to comment on the fumes when using BIN. I am very sensitive to chemical smells. The only thing I make sure I do ...is when I am Binning the whole masonite board that I am going to work on...then I make sure I do that outside. So much BIN at once can be a bit smelly. I then bring the board to class with me. Not too much BIN is used when you mix it in with the tints and pastels, so that even with 3 or 4 of us inside painting...in one room, it doesn't seem to be a problem. In the summer we all paint outside. The center of Guilford , CT is quite charming and it's really alot of fun painting while everyone stops by to chat . It is such a quaint village atmosphere. Hello All! As a Connecticut Yankee living in St.Louis, I can't tell you how I miss home. But when I read about Brendan Loughlin I REALLY realized it. Brendan is an extraordinary example of "never say never". When even a "professional" says you have no talent, just keep moving ahead and eventually they will eat their words. BRAVO, Brendan! You have spurred me on to open my own photography show and let people know that one does not need to be a professional to be seen.....or heard. Follow your passion, not what people say. The rest will follow.

As a former Guilford resident and a new Texas resident I can't wait to have Brendon's painting over my TX fireplace. I have always loved walking downtown in Guilford and along the green and seeing Brendon's paintings. I remember when after 9/11 his happy prints started popping up in Guilford. Right before we moved to TX, I remembered that Brendon would often paint downtown. The day before we moved I found him outside Tastebuds and asked him to paint a sunflower scene for over our fireplace in Texas. Not only did Brendon remember me when I called back but he honored his price, six months later! I am coming home soon and can't wait to pick up my painting. I am so happy to see his success.

I loved your article about Brendon's art. As a little kid I could draw and always wanted to but never had the courage. Someday I am going to drive to Guilford and see if I can take a lesson or two from this very gifted man.

What a delight when I read this article. Brendan was Butch when we were growing up in Wallingford. I have not seen him in almost 40 years! We are cousins! I plan to go to CT this summer and will surprise him in Guilford! Thank you in advance for a great reunion! Dick Lockert

I went with my girlfriend Margie to the classes in Guilford last Thursday. I didn't participate this time, but seeing all the energy put into the teaching and the learning has made me want to start. I will be going to join them soon. It was amazing to see the progression of those who profess never to have painted before. I really enjoyed myself.
