Jeremy Frey, Basketmaker, Indian Township, Maine
by Wayne Curtis
Jeremy Frey's baskets aren't just works of art, but small monuments to perfection. He splits brown ash into thin strips, then weaves them into a creation that's both feather-light and sturdy. He may spend up to a month creating a single one; pricing starts at about $95 and averages $300. Look for Jeremy at Bar Harbor's Native American Festival at College of the Atlantic on July 5 (207-827-0391); at the Abbe Museum on July 12 (26 Mt. Desert St., Bar Harbor; 207-288-3519); or at the Common Ground Country Fair, September 19-21 (Crosby Brook Road, off Route 220, Unity; 207-568-4142).
