SLIDE SHOW: Sol Lewitt's Contemporary Art
When Sol Lewitt: A Wall Drawing Retrospective opens on November 16 at MASS MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts, the exhibit will include over 100 works stretched over three floors of gallery space.
Unlike other artists whose work is simply hung, every time a Lewitt is displayed it must be painted anew on the gallery wall by a team of artists following strict instructions.

MassMoCA is one of those exhibition spaces where the viewer can profoundly engage the work of such a major artist. Looking at a reproduction in a book won't do it, and the same can be said of most encounters of his work in museums. Reading his theoretical positions, however, is valuable.
