Bristol Harbor Inn
Best Bargain Completed in 2002, this 40-room boutique hotel was built on the site of an early 19th-century rum distillery. Indeed, an original wooden barrel serves as a decorative piece in the lobby. (Sorry, it’s empty.) After you’ve checked in, be sure to check out the spectacular water views of Bristol Harbor from the cozy confines of your room—sailboat sightings included. It’s also within walking distance of shopping and dining spots. Continental breakfast and three-hour tie-ups at boat docks are included. Rates: from $135, including continental breakfast. [DETAILS]
Old Court Bed and Breakfast
Best Bargain Ten rooms in this former 1863 rectory offer brass beds and antiques, 12-foot ceilings, Italianate mantelpieces, and killer views of the Providence skyline. In the morning you get a full homemade breakfast to help you greet the day. Perched on College Hill, it’s within walking distance of Downcity, Brown University, and the Rhode Island School of Design. Rates: from $145, including full breakfast. [DETAILS]
Wright's Farm Restaurant
Best Bargain Rhody’s famous “family style” chicken meals sprang up during the early 20th century as a way to feed crowds of Italian and French Canadian millworkers in the Blackstone Valley. Although the mills may be gone, the tradition of those good, sustaining meals continues at Wright’s, where for 30 years the owners have mastered the art of feeding large groups. Dinners begin with homemade rolls and green salad (with Wright’s classic Italian dressing), followed by macaroni with red sauce, homemade French fries, and plenty of roast chicken. Prix fixe: $10.95, children $6.25. [DETAILS]
Hose Co. No. 6
Best Bargain Locals still call it “06,” from its days as a working fire station. While it’s been a restaurant since the 1970s, the building’s former history still f lavors the place, from the glass case displaying eight brass nozzles to the black-and-white photos that adorn the walls. Great bargain meals every night and on Saturdays: “King’s Feasts,” six-course medieval dinners sans utensils, including steamed mussels, roast chicken, and salad. Entrées: from $10. [DETAILS]
Ocean State Job Lot
Best Bargain Locals have flocked to “Job Lot” since it first opened in North Kingstown in 1977; there are now 14 around the Ocean State. From gourmet food to greeting cards, Job Lot offers namebrand products at rock-bottom prices. The fun part is finding that hilarious novelty item—a teapot shaped like an eggplant, anyone?—that will have you and your friends rolling in the aisles. [DETAILS]
