The town of East Lyme, CT, also holds and annual Sand Castle Contest as a part of the town's 'Celebrate East Lyme' activities. The contest begins at 9:00 am at Hole in the Wall Beach. This year's 2008 contest was the best so far with sculptures ranging from a replica Eskimo igloo to a rendition of the Grinch under a Chirstmas tree. The 2009 Sand Castle Contest will be held on Saturday, July 17. This event is sponsored by East Lyme Parks & Recreation, and people of all hometowns and skill-levels are encouraged to participate.
