Jeopardy! Features Yankee Magazine as a Category on September 17th

by Heather Atwell

Jeopardy

Yankee Magazine will be a category on Jeopardy!, the most honored quiz show in television history, on Friday, September 17, 2010. The show begins its 27th season of syndication on Monday, September 13. The magazine is celebrating its 75th anniversary this September. Jeopardy!, winner of 28 Emmy awards since its début in 1984, was inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records for the highest number of awards won by any TV game show. The series is the #1-rated quiz show in syndication, with nearly 9 million daily viewers. Yankee Magazine also appeared as a Jeopardy!, category in March 2005, and The Old Farmer's Almanac, owned by Yankee Publishing Inc., appeared as a category in March 2009.

"We're thrilled that Yankee will be a category on Jeopardy! during the occasion of our 75th anniversary," says editor Mel Allen. "Robb Sagendorph, Yankee Magazine's founder, created something unique in 1935: a magazine that held the voices of a region within its bound pages. And as New England changed and evolved, so too did the magazine. The voices may be different today, but they still come from the same place. It will be interesting to see how the contestants fare with the category clues for Yankee."

Yankee's September/October 2010 issue, on newsstands through mid-October, celebrates Yankee's 75th anniversary as New England's magazine. Included in this collector's edition is a special anniversary section featuring "The Ultimate Yankee Quiz" and "75 Things Every New Englander Should Do." Best-selling author, educator, and environmentalist Bill McKibben wraps up his four-part series, "How New England Can Change the World," with an article on how small-town banks in Massachusetts' Berkshire Hills are printing their own regional currency. Also included in this keepsake issue are Yankee's favorite recipes from the past 75 years and editor-in-chief Judson D. Hale Sr.'s reminiscences of his first day at Yankee, more than 50 years ago.
