Featured Photographer: Luke Barton Captures Autumn in the White Mountains
by Luke Barton
Luke Barton is a landscape and nature photographer with strong ties to Boston's North Shore and the White Mountains of New Hampshire. He combined his passion for photography with his love of the outdoors, hiking and scenic New England, and began photographing coastal sunrises and sunsets on Cape Ann, focusing on "Golden Hour Photography" and using filters to correctly expose the often difficult contrasting light of that hour.
Luke began hiking in the White Mountains in 2003. One mile summer hikes led to 15 mile traverses and his first winter summit of Mt. Washington in early March of 2008. He began bringing his camera along to document his experiences and started planning specific trips above the treeline to photograph these breathtaking views. He spends much of his time focusing on scouting locations before actually shooting in a specific area, and much of his research is based on time of the day, weather conditions and finding the best light. Often times this happens on his own during his own adventures in the White Mountains.
