I got this from a co-worker here in Arizona who was originally from Camden, Maine.
Butter or margarine
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 or 3 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. nutmeg
Raisins or chopped dates
1/4 cup water
Core the apple and butter the skin. Combine sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg in a bowl. Roll the buttered apple in spiced sugar mixture. Place in oven-proof serving bowl. Fill hollow with raisins and chopped nuts. Add water. Bake at 325 degrees until skin opens, about 45-60 minutes. Serve hot with vanilla ice cream for breakfast or dessert.
