  • 1-3/4 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup imported cocoa
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup boiling water


Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Mix well. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. With an electric mixer, beat at medium speed for 2 minutes. Stir in the boiling water by hand. The batter will be thin. Pour into a greased bundt pan and bake for 40 minutes, or until a tester inserted in the cake comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes in the pan on a wire rack, then remove from the pan and continue cooling on the rack. The cake will be very moist.

    This was absolutely the easiest and best chocolate cake I’ve ever made. My wife is a certified chocoholic and I’ve made it for her twice now for her birthday.

    Could I cook this is a 9×13 glass pan?

      Hi Anne! A 9×13 pan should definitely work fine. Always let your eye be your guide when filling a pan with batter — if it seems like too much, it probably is — better to have a smaller cake than one that overdflows the pan in the oven! You will need to adjust the baking time, but since we haven’t tested this recipe for a sheet cake, we can’t advise you on that part. Keep an eye on it and use the toothpick or skewer tester method until it comes out clean! Happy baking!
