Yield: 2 loaves.
Although it is not steamed and has no raisins, this is the brown bread Sam Thacher's mother served with the family's Saturday night beans.
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1-1/2 cups white flour
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 3 cups sour milk
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 3-1/2 to 4 cups graham flour
Sift baking soda with white flour. Combine with remaining ingredients. Form into 2 large loaves. Bake in greased loaf pans at 350 degrees F for 1 hour or until done.
