Cornmeal, Rice, Grains Recipes

New Bedford tradition says these toads are to be eaten with creamed codfish.

  • 1 cup corn meal
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • salt milk sugar, if desired

Mix the meal, flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the egg, unbeaten, and enough milk so that walnut-sized portions can be dripped into deep fat (360 degrees F) for frying to golden brown.
