Yield: Makes 12 servings.


  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 2-1/2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2/3 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger


Cream butter with sugar. Add beaten eggs and maple syrup. Sift together dry ingredients and add, alternating with hot water. Bake in greased angel food cake pan for about 50 minutes at 350 degrees F. Cover with vanilla or maple icing and garnish with pecan or walnut halves.

    years ago I found a recipe for maple cupcakes and icing for them in your magazine…I have misplaced the recipe and cannot find it in your search…how far back in magazines can I search to find it..both the cake and icing had maple syrup in the ingredients.

      Hi Christine. I can’t seem to find a recipe for Maple Cupcakes with Maple Icing in our recipe archives. Was the recipe originally for a Maple Cake? We’ve published several maple cake recipes over the years. If you can give me some additional info on when you saw the recipe (please be as specific as possible!) that will help me search for the recipe you’re thinking of. Thanks!
