Shrimp with Green Apple Chipotle Chili Pepper Salsa

  • 12 large shrimp
  • 6 tablespoons paprika
  • 2 tablespoons black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon chile powder
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • pinch cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Green Apple Chipotle Chili Pepper Salsa (below)
  • Garnish: apple slices, fresh cilantro sprigs


Peel shrimp, leaving tails on; devein if desired. Set aside. Combine paprika and next five ingredients. Lightly sprinkle mixture over shrimp. Store leftover spice mixture in an airtight container for future use.

Saute shrimp 1 minute on each side in hot olive oil in a large skillet. Serve 3 shrimp with 1/4 cup Green Apple Chipotle Chili Pepper Salsa. Garnish, if desired.

Green Apple Chipotle Chili Pepper Salsa


  • 1/2 cup diced Granny Smith apple
  • 1/4 cup diced red onion
  • 1/4 cup diced red bell pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons apple juice
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • pinch chipotle chili pepper chili powder


Combine all ingredients. Cover and chill 1 hour. Yield: 1 cup

    Easy to make and the spices made the shrimp special — Ihave used the spice mixture over other dishes. I made it for a small dinner party, a casual eating, and everyone loved it. We then moved on to the main part of the dinner. But the shrimp really held its own, leaving just the right taste.
