Sweet and Zesty Fried Green Tomatoes
Yield: 4 servings
- 4 to 6 firm green tomatoes
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/4 cup cornmeal
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup milk
- Oil for frying
Instructions:Cut tomatoes 1/4-inch thick. In a large bowl, mix all ingredients to resemble thick pancake batter. Dip in each tomatoe slice.
Heat up oil in a deep skillet or in a deep fryer and fry tomatoes on each side. Serve with hot sauce.
