Cape Ann's Dogtown
Aimless Paths, Carved Boulders, and a Checkered Past
Photographer Sara Gray captures the remoteness, the quiet, the starkness of Dogtown, New England's most famous abandoned settlement on Cape Ann, near Gloucester, Massachusetts.
Despite a sketchy past, the 3,600-acre site is still an attraction for history devotees, nature lovers, and artists and writers, perhaps because of that remoteness.
