The Cape Cinema in Dennis, Massachusetts is a historic treasure that has entertained audiences for decades. The Cinema shows independent American and international film, Metropolitan Opera in HD, the National Theater Live in HD from London, and occasional Live Indie Rock Shows. Located at 35 Hope Lane, Dennis, MA. For more information, call the box office at (508)-385-2503.

The Cape Cinema building was designed by Alfred Easton Poor (famous for the Wright Brothers Monument in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina). The facade was patterned after a classic New England church, while the sides resemble a cow barn. Inside, a Rockwell Kent mural graces the theater’s 6,400-square-foot ceiling. Completed in the spring of 1930, the mural is still among the largest in the United States and one of only five Kent did in his lifetime. With light rays from the projection booth representing the moon and the stage’s Japanese-style decorated curtain evoking the sun, the Cape Cinema’s auditorium is heavenly. For more information, call the Cinema’s box office at 508-385-2503.

Summer blockbusters don’t hold a candle to the art films that flicker on this screen or to the artwork on the ceiling. The 6,400-square-foot art deco mural is a downright dazzling representation of Rockwell Kent’s view of heaven, stuffed with constellations, galaxies, and comets. (It’s one of only five murals ever designed by Kent.)

On the grounds of the Cape Playhouse, this restored 1930s treasure screens foreign and art films. The exterior resembles a barn (sides) and a Congregational Church (front); the interior ceiling mural symbolizes the heavens and constellations, as depicted by Rockwell Kent.
