TABLE OF CONTENTS
Westport, MA 02790
Westport is a semi-secret treasure of a town, known for Horseneck Beach and the great food on the harbor, where the two branches of the Westport River meet. Think outdoor grills, seriously fun cocktails, and local treasures from the verdant farms and bountiful waters around here.
–Yankee Magazine, May/June 2010
While the food is well-crafted, it’s the general merriment that makes this a summer dining must. The kitchen relies on nearby waters for the bulk of its plates, including classic fish-and-chips; crispy, cuminy wild shrimp; and all manner of shellfish. There’s plenty for landlubbers, too, from fiery habeñero meatloaf to succulent pork with macaroni-and-cheese. Located on Route 88, just north of Horseneck Beach (great for walking and swimming), The Back Eddy is on the docks, smack-dab in the middle of Westport Harbor. If a full meal isn’t in your plans, check out the outdoor barbecue and raw bar—they’ll leave you humming Sinatra’s “Summer Wind.”
Best Waterfront Dining with a Sunset View
The coast of Buzzards Bay has a number of places where you can see drop-dead gorgeous sunsets, but none boasts the drop-dead delicious fare served at this consistently excellent restaurant overlooking Westport Harbor. The kitchen excels at attention-grabbing dishes such as chouriço-stuffed quahogs, sushi-grade tuna with house-made kimchee, and spaghetti served with spicy arrabiata sauce, liberally laced with homemade garlic-and-fennel sausage.
