The Liberty Hotel
Boston, MA 02114
It took a sense of humor and style to turn a famous jail into a posh hotel, and that spirit informs everything at the Liberty, from the restaurants Clink, Alibi, and Scampo (Italian for “escape”) to the stunning atrium and the many thoughtful touches, such as Prosecco on arrival.
A cluster of small barred cells, the catwalks on the brick walls of the soaring lobby rotunda, and even the name of the all-day restaurant (Clink) remind guests that this new luxury hotel started life in 1851 as the Boston Granite-style Charles Street Jail. We like its central location, too: next to Massachusetts General Hospital, TD Banknorth Garden, and the Red Line.
Best Boutique Venue
A jail-turned-hotel, in which everything cheekily refers to its former life? Once you’re inside, it all works: the balcony-crowned lobby wrapping around the elevator entrance; the brick-walled rooms looking out to the city from epic windows; and the spectacular service.
