Best Lobster With Sunset
This quintessential seafood-in-the-rough establishment not only offers great fish and shellfish, but also features a fabulous westward view over Folly Cove. That makes it perfect for cracking a crustacean just as the sun goes down. There’s no charge for bringing your own wine or beer.
When out-of-towners demand lobster, we pack them off to Folly Cove Lobster Pool. This long red shack fronting the bend in Route 127 north of Rockport’s downtown is short on comforts, high on value. Join the inevitable long line that jostles between the front screen door and the tanks that hold dinners-to-be. A Ciarametaro family member takes orders for fresh lobster, clams or scallops, onion rings, cole slaw, french fries, and blueberry pie, then gives a number. While waiting, scout out back for a picnic table overlooking Folly Cove and Ipswich Bay (time your foray around sunset). The PA system could be toned down a bit, but no one complains — we’re too busy wrestling with sweet lobster and drinking in the view. Folly Cove Lobster Pool. Open daily mid-May to mid-October ($$). No credit cards. 329 Granite St. (Rte. 127), Rockport; 508-546-7808.
