The Red Inn

Through some magic of architecture, the dining room at The Red Inn promotes the illusion of floating, like the many boats just outside in Provincetown Harbor. The sea-level view seems never-ending; the Atlantic just rolls on and on. The dining room is decorated in breezy tones and unpainted wood, keeping the focus on the sea view. Rack of lamb is the inn’s signature dish—but we’ve found that a platter of Wellfleet oysters and some sparkling wine do the trick quite nicely. Lunch and dinner are a treat, and brunch is a “see and be seen” event.

Waterfront accommodations can rest on their stunning location laurels and get away with it for a long time. That lackadaisical approach was abolished recently at this inn, which dates back to 1915, thanks to new owners breathing new life into it. Entirely first-rate, The Red Inn is the most sophisticated waterfront lodging on Cape Cod. From beds heaped with down pillows to a soothing palette of paint colors, the rooms and suites quietly command your attention. Simply settle in to this privileged perch until it’s time to eat, when you can venture out to explore the hustle and bustle of town.
