Swedish Apple Pie with Cinnamon Cream Sauce

Not a pie in the traditional sense but a combination of pie, crisp, and cobbler. Serve à la mode. --The Black Bear, Richmond, Vermont

  • 3 to 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup nuts
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 egg
  • Pinch of salt


Fill buttered 9-inch pie pan two-thirds full of apples. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon, Combine remaining ingredients in bowl and spoon over apples. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes or until golden. Serve with Cinnamon Cream Sauce (recipe follows).

Cinnamon Cream Sauce


  • 1-1/2 cups sugar
  • 2/3 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2/3 cup evaporated milk


Bring sugar, corn syrup, water, and cinnamon to a boil over medium heat. Boil 4 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes. Stir in evaporated milk. Serve warm over pie.
